Dr. Raja Mohan Gopalakrishnan is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Iyer lab working on two major projects using the NHP model in this HIV space. One is centered around understanding the role of Tfh cells in antibody responses. The second is on understanding rare T cell subsets in the CNS. Prior to joining our lab, his postdoc research in the Vallabh/Minikel lab at the Broad Institute of Cambridge involved the creation of hypomorphic model of prion disease among other projects. During his first postdoc in the Tan lab at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, he investigated how neuroinflammatory conditions during acute HIV (through SIV macaque model) contribute to chronic neuroinflammation. He received his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Madras, which involved genetic engineering in fungi. In his free time, Raja likes to watch movies, try different recipes, and do patio gardening.
